Our Kinda Girl: The Barbara Berger Collection
There are few people in this world who have a deeper love and passion for luxury costume jewelry than Barbara Berger. Berger, a true jewelry fanatic, has a collection of vintage haute couture pieces unlike anything i’ve ever seen. Her exquisite and refined jewels are so extraordinary that the Museum of Art and Design in New York has put them on display in an exhibit that runs through the end of January 2014. With pieces from Balenciaga, Gripoix, Chanel, Dior, and not to mention some of our favorites including Iradj Moini and Goossens, the collection is both a history lesson as well as a means of experiencing pure ecstasy. I literally moaned and gasped for an hour as I took in the sheer beauty of it all. Whether you are a jewelry collector or someone who is just looking to learn a little something about the history of costume jewelry, this exhibit is a no brainer.
Can’t make it to New York to see it in person? No problem, the exhibition is accompanied by its own book published by Assouline and features an opening essay from fashion icon Iris Apfel.
Some highlights from my day at the museum….
